Extensions

Extensions are add-ons for the chat made by users and the CAICHAT team. Some work behind the scenes and help the character, others add something to the screen: they show the character’s thoughts, track relationship meters, change the chat background or design.

🧩 Adding extensions to a new chat

1. Open the character page and find the “Extensions” block under the model choice.

2. Tick the extensions you want with the checkbox. The top right corner of the block shows how many are selected, and the Clear all button removes the selection.

3. To find other extensions, click Connect More. The extensions catalog opens with the All, Mine and Public tabs, search and sorting.

4. Click Start chat. The selected extensions start together with the new chat.

An extension card shows its name, author, description, likes, number of messages and price.

💬 Extensions in an ongoing chat

In the chat’s side panel, expand Extensions and click Other Extensions. The number next to the item shows how many extensions are connected.

In the catalog, tick the extensions you want or untick the ones you don’t, and click Continue. When everything is applied, the site says “Chat extensions updated”.

💰 How much extensions cost

If an extension uses AI, tokens are charged for its work. Usually an extension runs after the character’s reply, and each run is paid separately — this is added to the price of the model’s reply itself.

• The price on the card, for example 10, is the average cost of one run over the last 30 runs by all users. The actual amount may be a little higher or lower.
• A dash instead of a price means the extension has been used too little to calculate an average cost.
• “FREE” or no price means the extension doesn’t spend tokens.

If you don’t have enough tokens, a paid extension won’t run. You can top up your balance on the Subscribe → Tokens page.

🔒 What the character’s creator can restrict

• Required extensions. The creator can choose extensions the character isn’t meant to work without. Then the character page says: “Extensions selected by the author are required and cannot be disconnected. You can add other extensions.”
• Only the creator’s extensions. The text “The author selected these extensions. They start automatically and cannot be replaced.” means you can’t add your own.
• No extensions. The text “The author disabled extension selection for this character.” means extensions can’t be connected to this character.

📚 Extensions catalog

All public extensions are collected in the left menu, in the Studio → Extensions group. It has search, sorting and filters: by price, tags and area of effect — Full Screen, Style or Plugins. You will find your own extensions in My Space → My Extensions.

🛠️ How to create your own extension

Extensions are built in the Workshop — a separate builder that opens from the left menu and is currently in beta. The finished version is published on the Create → New Extension page:

• name, picture, short and full description — they can be translated into different languages;
• Visibility: a private extension is visible only to you, a public one to everyone;
• Other Chatbots: whether the extension can be connected to other people’s characters;
• Forking: whether other users can make their own copy of the extension.

Before publishing, you need to agree to the community guidelines. New versions of an extension go through moderation: while a new version is being reviewed, users get the previous one.

“The chat was not created because selected extension interfaces conflict”

Two of the selected extensions change the chat interface and can’t work together. Untick one of them and start the chat again.

“One of the selected extensions is unavailable — remove it from the selection”

One of the extensions has been deleted or hidden by its author. Untick it in the extensions list before starting the chat.

The “Other Extensions” item can’t be clicked

The character’s creator has disabled extensions, or the list is still loading. If the item says “Extensions are temporarily unavailable”, refresh the page a little later.

An extension doesn’t work

Check your token balance: a paid extension doesn’t run without tokens. If you have tokens, write to the extension’s author in the discussion on its page.
