Creating a character

You can create your own character in a couple of minutes: a name, an avatar and a few paragraphs about its personality are enough. You can keep the character to yourself or publish it in the catalog — then others can chat with it, and you earn income.

Have a character on another platform?

A character from SpicyChat or JuicyChat, or from a JSON or PNG file, doesn’t have to be retyped by hand — you can import it with the Import chatbot button at the top of the form.

🚀 Quick start

1. In the left menu, click Create → New Chatbot.

2. Upload or generate an avatar. After uploading, choose the area of the picture and click Save.

3. Fill in the chatbot title, the character name and the description for the catalog.

4. Write the first message and the personality — that’s the minimum to bring the character to life. Required profile sections are marked with an asterisk.

5. In Additional settings, choose the model and behavior, visibility, gender and tags.

6. Tick the agreement with the Community Guidelines and click Create chatbot. Without this tick the site says “Accept the Community Guidelines to continue”.

A new character is public right away

By default the visibility is Public, and the personality and scenario are open to everyone (Bot instructions → Show). If the character is only for you, switch the visibility to Private before creating it. Lore, on the other hand, is Hidden by default.

Your characters are kept in the My Chatbots section. To edit a character, open its card and click next to the “Start chat” button. When editing, a Lore section appears, and if the character isn’t translated into all languages yet, so does a Translate for button. To save your changes, tick the agreement with the guidelines again and click Save.

📝 Profile: how the character thinks and speaks

These fields define the character’s personality and behavior. The AI reads them before every reply.

First message

The greeting is the character’s first message, the one the story starts with. It sets the tone for the whole chat: reply length, style, actions in *asterisks*. You can write up to 20 different greetings — then the user chooses which one to start with.

Personality

Who the character is: looks, age, temperament, habits, way of speaking, past, what it loves and what it fears. This is the main field of the profile.

Scenario

The circumstances in which the story begins: where the characters are, what connects them, what is happening right now.

Dialog

Example lines that show how the character speaks. Separate scenes with a <START> line and label the lines with names:

Author’s note

Advice for the user: how best to play with the character, what it likes, what it reacts to. Users see it in the profile. If you turn on Show first, users see the note first when they open the chatbot, and then the first message.

Lore

Knowledge about the world, events and reactions that come into play at the right moment in the conversation. The Lore section appears when you open a character you have already created for editing. This is an advanced feature with its own article: Lore book.

Chat background

A picture shown in the background of the chat with the character. You can upload or generate it under the first message field.

The {{char}} and {{user}} placeholders

In greetings, personality, scenario and dialogs you can write {{char}} — it is replaced with the character’s name, and {{user}} — with the name of the user’s persona. This way the character addresses each user by their persona’s name.

Which language to write in

Under the Personality, Scenario and Dialog fields, the site recommends writing in English: models understand instructions in English best. The character can still reply to users in their own language.

Under the large fields there is a token counter — it shows how much room the text takes in the AI’s memory. The longer the profile, the less room is left for the conversation itself, and the more a message costs on paid models.

⚙️ Settings

All settings are in the Additional settings block under the profile. You can collapse it with the “Hide” button.

Lore	Anyone can read public lore entries; hidden ones are visible only to you
Extensions	Allow users to connect extensions to the character. Below, in the “Extensions” block, you can choose your own — they will start together with the chat
Paid access	Make access to the character paid, see below
Model and behavior	The AI model and storytelling style you recommend for the character. On its page they are marked as “Author’s choice”. See Models and behavior
User models	Allow users to change the model and behavior. If you deny it, the character always runs on the pair you chose

💰 Paid access

You can make a character paid: a user buys access once with tokens and then chats without paying for access again.

• You set the price yourself within the minimum and maximum shown in the form. The price is a whole number of tokens.
• Once the character is created, you can’t switch its type from “Paid” to “Free”, but you can change the price.
• Income from access sales and from chats with your characters is shown in the Monetization section.

💬 Message cost

Under the profile you can see the message cost — how many tokens one reply of the character spends on a paid model. It depends on the selected model and on the size of the personality, first messages and scenario. On free models, messages cost nothing.

🌍 Translating into other languages

CAICHAT works in five languages. The Translate for button at the top of the edit page automatically translates the greetings, description and author’s note into the languages you choose, so that users from other countries can understand the character. In the “Translate” window, tick the languages you need and click Translate for — the button shows how many tokens will be charged. Translation is paid per language. The button is visible while at least one site language is missing something: the title, name, description, author’s note or greetings. Once the character is translated into all languages, the button disappears.

If you open someone else’s character in another language, you can use the same button to translate its texts into the site language.

💡 Tips for bringing a character to life

• Show, don’t list. Instead of “she is kind”, describe an action: “she always leaves a bowl of milk by the door for stray cats”.
• Give the character a goal and a contradiction. A strong character is a desire plus whatever stands in the way of it.
• The first message is a sample reply. If you want long replies with actions, write the greeting the same way.
• Don’t overload the profile. Everything important should fit into a couple of screens. Move world details into the lore — it is only used when needed.
• Test the character in action. Start a chat with it, see where it “falls out” of character, and adjust the profile.

❓ Related questions

Why doesn’t the character behave the way I wrote it?

Check that the essentials are in the Personality field and not in the Description: the description is only a teaser for the catalog, the AI doesn’t read it. Examples in the Dialog field and a first message in the right style help. Also try another model: models follow instructions differently.

Can I make a character just for myself?

Yes, choose Private visibility: the character won’t appear in the catalog and will be visible only to you.

Can I make a paid character free?

No. After the character is created, the “Paid” access type can’t be changed to “Free”, but you can change the price.

What happens if I delete a character?

All chats and images related to the character are deleted with it. They can’t be restored.
